196 Countries, 196 Books

Bucket list project

The first thing I want to put on my Bucket list, is a rather large project. Actually, it will probably take me a few years to finish, but here it is.

I want to read a book from every country in the world.

I first came across the idea, when I saw this TED Talk, where a woman talked about wanting to expand her knowledge of the world through reading.

So I found her webpage, www.ayearofreadingtheworld.com, and decided to give it a go. I have always loved reading books and this seemed perfect for me, because I am addicted to feelings of accomplishment. It’s like a competition just for me, and it actually makes me put aside more time for reading.

When I finish reading a book, I will share my experience with the book, in a Tuesday post. I might need your help though, dear readers, to find certain books from around the world. The selection of foreign literature here is not as massive as I might have hoped.

I am really excited about this and I can hardly wait to fill my apartment with books from all over the world! It also seems like a ‘cheap’ alternative to backpacking all over the Earth.

Are you reading anything thrilling at the moment that I should check out? 🙂

Highly recommend White Tiger by Aravin Adiga for your India-selection. Deals with caste, poverty and much more and is a surprisingly funny read to boot

Oh, did you consider the Midwife books by Jennifer Worth for England? “Call the Midwife,” the TV series, is based on them.

The TV series is on Netflix if you need it.

No actually, I didn’t know about those 🙂 But I’m thinking I’ll include the Harry Potter series, as the English contribution, as that gives me an excuse to re-read it 😉 But thank you for a great suggestion, it goes straight to the “To be read” list
